Karnali CM Kandel to seek vote of confidence today
Karnali Provincial Assembly comprises 40 members. There are 14 provincial lawmakers from Nepali Congress, 13 from CPN (Maoist Center) and 10 from CPN-UML. Likewise, there is one provincial lawmaker each from the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), CPN (Unified Socialist) and independent provincial assembly member. Even if only the numbers of CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Center) are considered, Chief Minister Kandel is expected to secure a vote of confidence.
CPN-UML's Kandel was appointed as the chief minister of Karnali province on April 9. Chief Minister Kandel on Wednesday appointed Ransingh Pariyar of CPN (Maoist Center) as minister without portfolio.
The Council of Ministers remains incomplete due to a lack of agreement with the ruling party CPN (Maoist Center). Following the vote of confidence on Thursday, Chief Minister Kandel plans to finalize the cabinet.
On Wednesday, the meeting of the leaders of CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Center) decided on the division of ministries. According to the agreement reached in the meeting, CPN-UML will get the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Urban Development, Ministry of Land Management, Agriculture, and Cooperatives, and Ministry of Internal Affairs and Law.
Similarly, the Maoist Center will have the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Planning, Ministry of Social Development, Ministry of Industry, Tourism, Forestry and Environment and the Ministry of Water Resources and Energy Development.
