SURKHET, June 15: The policies and programs presented by the Karnali Province Government for fiscal year 2021/22 were passed through majority votes in the provincial assembly Tuesday afternoon.
The policies and programs, which were tabled by Province Chief Govinda Prasad Kalauni at a meeting of the provincial assembly on Sunday, were presented before the assembly for a final decision after Chief Minister Mahendra Bahadur Shahi responded to the questions raised by the members on Tuesday.

Of the 39 members of the Karnali Province Assembly, only 14 belonging to the main opposition CPN-UML voted against the policies and programs. Though the UML parliamentary party in the province issued a whip to its lawmakers to cast their votes against the policies and programs, Prakash Jwala voted for the motion. UML has a total of 20 members including Speaker Raj Bahadur Shahi. Three other members were not present during Tuesday’s meeting.
The policies and programs were seconded by 12 members of the ruling CPN (Maoist Center), six of the Nepali Congress (NC) and one of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP).
Meanwhile, the Karnali Province Government is presenting the annual budget for FY 2021/22. Minister for Economic Affairs and Planning, Gopal Sharma is delivering the budget speech in the fresh session of the province assembly that resumed at 4PM Tuesday.
