SURKHET, June 15: Minister for Internal Affairs and Law of Karnali Province, Sita Kumari Nepali has said the provincial government is going to establish a mass communications academy in the province.
Speaking at a virtual discussion on 'Journalists' Code of Conduct and Credibility of Media' on Monday, Minister Nepali said that the provincial government had the policy to set up the academy in order to make the media sector systematic and effective. Even a bill on it has already been tabled at the provincial parliament, she added.

She further shared that the issues are health, safety, and professional competence of working journalists and their health insurance, scholarship at Master's level programs in journalism and mass communications, stress on public welfare advertisement would be incorporated in the budget.
Nepali also observed that the media sector witnessed a remarkable change following federalism and it was good to see the growing presence of women in the media.
On the occasion, chief of the Department of Mass Communications and Journalism at Madhyapaschim University, Yubaraj Sharma, said that Karnali Province is running a Master's level programme in journalism. The third and fourth semesters of the program focus on research.
Similarly, FNJ Chair in Karnali Province, Deviram Devkota, demanded the government pay attention to the capacity building of journalists.
