KATHMANDU, Jan 8: A total of eight individuals have been arrested in the case of 138 kg gold smuggling and have been sent to jail for preliminary investigation. The bench of Judge Shankar Bahadur Rai of the Kathmandu District Court ordered to send all the defendants to prison for preliminary investigation.
After the arrest of Chandra Ghale of Gorkha, who had brought 14 kg gold from Dubai, more smuggling was revealed. During the investigation, the airport customs office claimed that this group had smuggled 138 kg of gold and claimed the same amount of fines and compensation.
Chandra Ghale, who smuggled gold, Min Bahadur Ghale, who managed setting for gold smuggling in Nepal, Krishna Kumar Shrestha of Syangja, who smuggled gold earlier, have been sent to jail for the preliminary investigation.
CIB files charge-sheet against 33 for smuggling of 33 kg gold
Dan Bahadur Gurung aka DB and his wife Bina Gurung who were made defendants in this case are absconding.
Similarly, the employees who facilitated to smuggle the gold from the airport have also been jailed.
Airport employees Radhakrishna Shrestha, Lek Bahadur Tamang, Ramesh Deula, Anil Shrestha, Sher Bahadur Basnet were sent to jail. They are employees under Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal. It is alleged that they took a bribe from Dan Bahadur Gurung and smuggled gold.
The names of other individuals involved in gold smuggling are identified as Ankit Agrawal, Rajendra Basnet, Bimal Poddar, Rajkumar Bharti, Jeewan Gurung. Their details, including name, surname, nationality, and charges, will be presented in court if required.
