Kathmandu Valley sees highest single-day spike in COVID-19 cases

KATHMANDU, July 2: A record of 32 new cases were detected in the Kathmandu Valley in the last 24 hours, according to the Ministry of Health and Population.

KATHMANDU, July 2: A record of 32 new cases were detected in the Kathmandu Valley in the last 24 hours, according to the Ministry of Health and Population.


Speaking at a regular virtual press briefing, Dr Jageshwar Gautam, spokesperson for the health ministry, said that 28 new cases have been identified in Kathmandu district, while two cases each have been confirmed in Lalitpur and Bhaktapur districts.

The spike in the number of COVID-19 cases is attributed to the increasing number of people entering the Kathmandu Valley after the government eased the nationwide lockdown.


In the meantime, 473 new cases were confirmed across the country in the last 24 hours.  With this Nepal has reported a total of 14,519 positive cases with 31 deaths as of Thursday evening.


In the meantime, 5,320 COVID-19 patients have been discharged after recovery from various health facilities across the country.
