Khadka wins gold in judo

KATHMANDU, Dec 9: Judoka Devika Khadka clinched the gold medal in women’s 52 kg weight category as Nepal secured four silvers and three bronzes at the Army Physical Fitness and Training Center in Lagankhel at the ongoing South Asian Games (SAG) on Sunday.

KATHMANDU, Dec 9: Judoka Devika Khadka clinched the gold medal in women’s 52 kg weight category as Nepal secured four silvers and three bronzes at the Army Physical Fitness and Training Center in Lagankhel at the ongoing South Asian Games (SAG) on Sunday. 


Khadka defeated India's Gayatri Tokas 3-2 to bag the gold. Bangladesh’s Tahamida Tabassum Toma and Sri Lanka’s Shalani Hathurusinghe Gedara got bronze medals. In women’s competition, Manita Shrestha Pradhan and Nirmala Gharti Magar won silver medals on Sunday, the first day of the sport in the SAG.


Pradhan lost to Indian opponent Suchika Tariyal in women’s 57 kg weight category while Magar suffered defeat against Lalishram Nirupama Devi in 63 kg weight category.

Pakistan’s Amina Toyoda and Sri Lanka’s Mandushan Kulu (57 kg), and Bangladesh’s Ukroi Marma and Hafsara Yameena Rifaz (63 kg) got bronze medals.


Likewise, Soniya Bhatta and Humaira Ashiq of Pakistan got bronze medals in women’s 48 kg weight category. Shushila Devi Likmabam of India claimed the gold while Chamila Dilani Marippulige of Sri Lanka won the silver medal.


In men’s competitions, Indra Bahadur Shrestha won the silver medal after he lost against India’s Jasleen Singh Saini in 66 kg weight category. Bhutan’s Kinley Tshering and Pakistan’s Md Hasnain got bronze medals.


Sanjit Dangol also won the silver after he was defeated by Sri Lanka’s Chamara Nuwan Dharmawaradana in 73 kg weight category. Bhutan’s Tandian Wangchuk and India’s Vishal Rahul got bronze medals.


In 60 kg, India’s Vijaya Kumar Yadav defeated Sri Lanka’s Arachchilage Wickrama to win the gold. Nepal’s Umesh Magar and Bhutan’s Ngawang Namgyel got bronze medals.
