TAPLEJUNG, Nov 24: Nepali Congress (NC)'s Khagensin Hangam has won in Taplejung Provincial Assembly B, which has been won continuously by CPN-UML for three decades.
Hangam won by defeating Gopal Topra of CPN-UML with a margin of 1,248 votes. Out of the total 21,807 votes cast here, Hangam got 10,496 votes. Gopal Topra got 9,248 votes.
Sudurpaschim CM Sodari secures vote of confidence
The official announcement to this effect is yet to be made by the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer. This is the first time since 2048 BS that NC has been able to secure victory from this region. This constituency was considered a stronghold of the UML for a long time.
Ambika Sanwa was elected here in 2048 BS and 2051 BS, Omprakash Ojha in 2056 BS, Dambardhwaj Tumbahamfe in 2064 BS and 2070 BS and Tank Angbuhang in 2074 BS.
Meanwhile, the counting of votes in the Provincial Assembly constituency A is currently underway. Tilkumar Menyangbo of CPN-UML is ahead by almost 1,000 votes in this constituency. His nearest rival is Khem Bahadur Vanem of CPN (United Socialist).
