Around 12 to 15 domestic tourists visit Khatpad daily since the first snowfall on December 29 last year. Although the risks of COVID-19 continue to persist in the district, tourists have been visiting the place to play with snow and soak up with the beauty of the snow-clad hills and meadows, said Hiralal Saun, a local.

As the snowfall has stopped, sunshine makes it easier for tourists to visit the place at noon, Saun said. Due to snowfall, the temperature in Khaptad, which is also a protected conservation site, has fallen down sharply making it difficult for locals to engage in any outdoor activities. Farmers are, however, happy with snowfall hoping that they can yield bumper harvest.

Deepak Bahadur Khadka, homestay proprietor at Jhigrana, shared that the snowy view of the hills and meadows in the Khapad region serve as a feast for eyes of nature and adventure lovers. Over 4,000 domestic tourists have visited Khaptad since mid-April last year to date, according to the Khaptad National Park Office.
