KATHMANDU, April 30: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) Mayor Balendra Shah (Balen) has urged schools in the city to use Nepali names and stop using false qualifiers such as ‘public’, ‘national’ and ‘international’.
On Sunday morning, the mayor wrote a message on his official Facebook page stating that his government aims to ensure consistency in the names and logos of schools in accordance with regulations 69 and 70 of the School Education Management Regulations of the city government in 2017.
Schools have been advised to choose names of significant figures from history who have made contributions to society and the nation, deities from religious mythology, pilgrimage sites, and natural heritage.

Likewise, the following rules have been set for the qualifying words in school names.
If the existing schools want to rename themselves as per the new rule, they have to obtain permission from the city government, Mayor Balen says.
The mayor has warned that action will be taken if the rules are not followed.
