KATHMANDU, March 31: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has again sought help from the Department of Archeology (DoA) to remove the business outlets operated in unauthorized manner in and around Basantapur area –one of the world heritage sites in Kathmandu Valley.

Earlier on 26 February, KMC had written to the DoA to evict all shops that are operating against existing rules within seven days. KMC had made a public announcement seeking cooperation to evacuate the unauthorized shops from the area after a month it wrote to the Department.

“We were forced to make a public announcement to evacuate shops from the world heritage site as the DoA was dilly-dallying to take concrete actions despite our frequent requests," said KMC Police Chief Dhanapati Sapkota.

Business outlets, including hotels, restaurants and shutters have been operational nearby the Fire Engine Office building and Taleju Temple", Sapkota added. He warned that the KMC would move ahead on its own way if the business outlet owners do not obey their repeated request.

However, Department's Director-General Damodar Gautam said they were making necessary initiatives to address the problems in the area under its jurisdiction.
