CM Thapa, who became the Chief Minister on July 6 with the support of Speaker Baburam Gautam, was dismissed by the Supreme Court on July 27. The Supreme Court annulled the appointment of Thapa and ordered the restart of the government formation process as he was involved in the formation of the government as the Speaker, which was against the Constitution.

On Tuesday, Thapa was re-appointed as the CM after the Koshi Province Assembly Speaker Gautam resigned. It is difficult for CM Thapa to get a vote of confidence for the second time within 26 days.

A total of 47 votes are required for a majority in the 93-member provincial assembly. There are 47 votes in favor of Thapa and 46 against him. In the meeting where the vote of confidence is taken, CPN-UML will have to chair the meeting from the ruling coalition if the deputy speaker is absent or resigns.
