BANEPA, July 2: Education at Kathmandu University remains halted for the past six days after the student union affiliated to the ruling Nepal Communist Party padlocked the university.

All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANNFSU), KU Regional Campus Committee Representative, Nabin Bogati stated that the university was padlocked after the university administration failed to fulfill the educational clauses of the agreement reached with the University Students Welfare Department last year. “With a view to keeping the studies unhampered, we previously told the university administration by issuing a notice on Wednesday. But we had to take firm steps after the notice was ineffective,” said Bogati.

Chairperson of KU Professor Association, Khagendra Acharya expressed his rage over the university administration for not being concerned about the students' education. “Eeducation is being halted and this does not seem to draw their attention,” said Acharya.

Some officials at KU have alleged that ANNFSU padlocked the university after it failed to pay the expenses of Madan Bhandari Smriti Football Cup Competition organized by them last year.

According to Bogati, they padlocked the university after their demands were not met. “The university signs agreements but hardly implements them,” added Bogati.

A senate meeting was called on Monday to discuss the issue. According to the senate meeting, the university proposed its new investment plans, and the roles the university would have in the country's reconstruction.
