KATHMANDU, July 14: Kathmandu University (KU) became the champion of the First Prime Minister Cup University Level National Sports Tournament that concluded in the capital on Wednesday. KU bagged four gold, four silver and five bronze medals.
Similarly, Tribhuvan University (TU) came second with four gold medals, three silver medals and a bronze despite the university dominating the last day's events.
TU claims basketball title
TU claimed men's basketball title beating KU 48-31 in the final at the semi covered hall of the National Sports Council.
TU dominated KU throughout the match as the former led the first quarter 12-6, second quarter 8-5, third 10-8 and fourth 18-12. Kishor Neupane top scored 19 points for TU.

Meanwhile, Purbanchal University (PU) finished third beating Agriculture and Forestry University (AFU) 40-26 as Chhiring Lakpa Sherpa scored highest 19 points for the winning side.
TU wins chess title
TU claimed the chess title as it won six matches in the round robin league and collected 12 points. In the seventh round, TU beat PU 4-0 to claim the title.
On the final day, Manoj Chapagain edged past Abhishek Limbu, Sanjeev Kumar Chaudhary surpassed Sanjeev Rai, Omkar Raj Thapaliya defeated Ravi Katuwal and Laxmi Prasad Oli saw off Suraj Das.
Meanwhile, KU finished second with nine points as it edged past Lumbini Buddhist University 3-1 in the sixth round.
Far-western University came third beating Nepal Sanskrit University in the seventh round.
MWU wins volleyball title
Mid-western University won men's volleyball title collecting 10 points in round robin league competed by four teams. Far-western University claimed second position with nine points, while TU came third with eight points.
NSC Member Secretary Keshab Kumar Bista among others handed over the trophies and prizes to the winners.
Altogether 287 players from eight universities took part in the competition that featured men's volleyball and basketball as well as men's and women's badminton, table tennis and chess.
