KATHMANDU, Nov 12: Nepal’’s Armed Police Force (APF) has celebrated Kukur Tihar by performing Kukur (dog) Puja. Kukur Tihar is celebrated on the second day of Tihar, the great festival of Nepali people. Across the nation, individuals pay homage to dogs, considering them loyal companions. This day is also recognized as Naraka Chaturdashi.

As per the tradition, worshippers offer dogs with flowers, garlands, and tika while providing them with food. Ramesh Upreti, Deputy Inspector of Animal Health and Dog Handling Subsection within the Armed Police Force, Balumbu, highlighted that the APF has four distinct dog breeds, German Shepherd, Labrador, Cocker Spaniel, and Golden Retriever. These dogs undergo specialized training in detecting drugs, arms, explosives, and contribute to crime investigation efforts.
