Kunwar stars in Sudur Paschim’s dominant win; Province 2 downs Karnali

KATHMANDU, June 20: Kabita Kunwar produced an all-round performance in Sudur Paschim Province’s dominating nine-wicket win against Gandaki Province during the opening match of the Prime Minister (PM) Cup Women’s T20 played at Covered Hall Cricket Ground in Mahendranagar on Wednesday.

KATHMANDU, June 20: Kabita Kunwar produced an all-round performance in Sudur Paschim Province’s dominating nine-wicket win against Gandaki Province during the opening match of the Prime Minister (PM) Cup Women’s T20 played at Covered Hall Cricket Ground in Mahendranagar on Wednesday. 


Kunwar stayed unbeaten on 21 runs chasing the target of 59 runs after picking up two wickets during her four-over spell in the first innings to secure Sudur Paschim’s win. Player of the match Kunwar smashed four boundaries during her 21-ball stay and shared a partnership of 23 runs with Kabita Joshi who contributed 12 runs off 9 deliveries. Likewise, Rewati Dhami scored unbeaten 12 runs off 14 deliveries to complete the chase with 78 balls to spare as Gandaki conceded 15 extra runs.

Earlier, Gandaki had won the toss and elected to bat first before getting all out for 58 runs in 20 overs. Sudur Paschim’s Laxmi Saud and skipper Janaki Bhatta shared two wickets each supported by Joshi’s single wicket during the innings. 


Gandaki’s Shila Regmi top-scored with 19 runs off 39 deliveries.  She was supported by Sushila Gurung’s 17 runs off 41 deliveries. Both innings included two boundaries each. Five players were dismissed for ducks.


In the other match of the day, Shanti Chaudhary was adjudged player of the match for her unbeaten 18 runs and three wickets in Province 2’s nine-wicket win against Karnali Province in the same venue on same day.


Karnali was bundled out for mere 58 runs in 19.2 overs before Province 2 completed the chase in 6.1 overs with 83 balls to spare. Shanti smashed a boundary during her 21-ball stay and was helped by Nir Kumari Balampaki’s 15 runs off 12 deliveries which included three boundaries. Karnali conceded 24 extra runs during the unsuccessful defense. Sarita GC was the only wicket taker for Province 2.


Earlier, Karnali won the toss and elected to bat first. Rabina Chaudhary scored 13 runs as none of the other players were able to reach double figures in the total of 58 runs. Shanti registered three wickets as she was supported by Goma Ale, Aarati Chaudhary, Kabita Gautam and Shova Ale’s a wicket each.
