Lalitpur Fire: Death toll reaches three

KATHMANDU, May 13: The number of people who died in a fire in a tin shed located in Lalitpur Metropolitan City-17, Bafal, has reached three. 


After the death of two daughters, the mother also succumbed to burn injuries on Monday, taking the death toll to three.

Five members of the Sanjay Giri family were injured when a fire broke out in the tin shed where Mobil was stored on May 5. They were taken to KIST Medical College and Teaching Hospital in Gwarko for treatment.


The next day Sanjay Giri's daughters— eight-year-old Priya and three-year-old Alisha Giri– succumbed to their injuries. Sanjay's wife, 32-year-old Rupa Giri, also passed away this morning while undergoing treatment, said Superintendent of Police (SP) Naresh Raj Subedi at the District Police Range, Lalitpur.


Sanjay, who sustained injuries in the fire, remains under medical care on a ventilator. Additionally, their nephew, 15-year-old Neet Giri, is currently undergoing treatment.
