LBRC gets one more month to submit report

KATHMANDU, Oct 3: Major three political parties—Nepali Congress (NC), CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Center)—have agreed to extend the deadline to the Local Body Restructuring Commission (LBRC) to submit its report by a month.

KATHMANDU, Oct 3: Major three political parties—Nepali Congress (NC), CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Center)—have agreed to extend the deadline to the Local Body Restructuring Commission (LBRC) to submit its report by a month.



The meeting convened at the Prime Minister’s Office in Singha Durbar decided to extend the deadline till mid-November, according to CPN-UML Vice-president Bhim Rawal.

The commission’s deadline was expiring mid-October.


The meeting also urged the commission to make the pervious area units (ilakas) as the main basis for restructuring the local units under the new federal setup as per the decision taken by Council of Ministers.



As per the criteria, there will be around 900 local units whereas the commission formed to fix the number and boundaries of local units had earlier proposed 565 units.



The meeting also decided not to transfer Local Development Officers until the commission submits its report.
