KATHMANDU, May 30: The opposition parties, including the Nepali Congress (NC), are working on a new equation from Madhesh Province. A day after Tuesday’s House of Representatives meeting constituted a parliamentary committee to probe the co-operative fraud, the main opposition NC resumed dialogue with the opposition parties.

NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba was in Budhanilkantha when a discussion was held between the top leaders of the Loktantrik Samajwadi party (LSP) and the Upendra Yadav-led Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) Nepal and the CPN Unified Socialist. Unified Socialist is a ruling party. Sources claim that an agreement was reached between the leaders to continue the government of Madhesh Province led by JSP.

With the separation of leaders including Ashok Rai from the Yadav-led JSP, the Maoist Center and the UML have separated from the Madhesh Province government. With the separation of the Maoists and UML from the government,  the government led by JSP leader Saroj Yadav has fallen into a minority. In the meeting attended by the top leaders of the four parties, one of the leaders claimed that there was an agreement to continue the current government of Madhesh Province.

In Madhesh Province Assembly, the UML is the first party with 23 members, while NC has 22 members, JSP 16, Janamat 13, LSP 9, Maoists 8 and the Nepal-led CPN-US has 7 members. The support of 54 MPs is needed to form a government in the 107-member Madhesh province assembly.

Along with Madhesh Province, Gandaki and Sudurpaschim government issues were also discussed between the leaders in the meeting. The fate of the Sudurpaschim  government formed under the leadership of CPN-US is uncertain. Close sources claim that UML does not want to move forward with the CPN-US even though it is in the power coalition. Those close to them claim that the UML is putting pressure on Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal to remove CPN-US from the federal government.

UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli plans to remove the CPN-US from the government after the budget is passed by the federal parliament and involve Janamat and the  Nagarik Unmukti Party. Sources claim that PM Dahal has agreed to it. Close sources claim that the homework of recalling one minister each from UML and Maoist along with Prabhu Shah to participate in the government has started.

While PM Dahal is falling under the pressure of UML, CPN-US Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal has also joined the opposition coalition. According to a close source, an agreement has been reached in the meeting with parties including the Rastriya Prajatantra Party to move forward by holding discussions on issues like power, government, and parliament.

After the meeting, JSP Chairman Yadav said, “There is a consensus that the opposition political parties will unite in the current political context. The issue of the Madhesh government was also raised in the meeting. Even there we are in one place.”
