KATHMANDU, Dec 16: Leaders of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) during its Standing Committee Meeting on Monday, raised questions over various issues ranging from Indo Pacific Strategy (IPS) to appointing one not associated to the party as the minister in the recent cabinet reshuffle.
Twelve leaders expressed their views during the ongoing SC Meeting that began on Sunday. Meeting has also discussed upon the Chairperson’s political report and General Secretary’s bylaw amendment proposal. Addressing the meeting, leader Dev Gurung opined that Nepal should not join the US-led Indo Pacific calling it a China containment strategy. He also urged the party leaders not to pass Compact on Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), an integral party of the Indo Pacific Strategy, which was tabled at the House of Representatives couple of months ago.
Most of the speakers vented their ire against the working style of the Oli-led government. One of the leaders accused the party leadership of giving ministerial berth to one who is even not affiliated to the party.
Leader Yubaraj Gyawali questioned whether the party to run the government or government to operate party.
According to the party spokesperson Narayan Kaji Shrestha, the members including Bam Dev Gautam, Ashta Laxmi Shakya, Bhim Rawal, Yogesh Bhattarai, Pampha Bhusal, Devendra Poudel, Ganesh Shah, Chhabilal Bishwakarma, Mukunda Neupane, Agni Sapkota, Yubraj Gyawali and Dev Gurung delivered their statements today.
The meeting will also discuss upon contentious issues such as amendment to the party’s bylaw, Nepal-India border issue and upcoming Central Committee meeting of the party. The meeting will resume at 11 am on Tuesday.
