KATHMANDU, Oct 7: The left alliance comprising CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Center) is working out to allocate election constituencies based on their performance in recent local elections and the result of 2013 Constituent Assembly elections.
Top leaders from both the parties have assigned the party aligned geographers, data analysts and election experts to analyze the recent elections results and traditional bastions of the parties and allocate election constituencies for the parties.
An expert on election affairs, who attended the alliance's meeting underway in a star hotel, said the alliance will accommodate maximum like-minded parties by offering certain election constituencies. The UML will field 60 percent of the remaining seats while Maoist Center will field its candidates in 40 percent of the election constituencies.
Senior leaders from Chitra Bahadur KC-led Rastriya Janamorcha, Sanghiya Samajbadi Forum Nepal of Upendra Yadav and CPN-ML were also present during Friday's meeting.
“It was a preliminary discussion with the left alliance. We are holding discussions with both the alliances," said Rajendra Shrestha, a leader of FSFN, confirming his presence in the meeting. At the meeting, Shrestha has sought left alliance's offer on constituency sharing for electoral alliance.
Leaders have made an understanding to field winnable candidates and give priority on keeping traditional strongholds of the parties.
Leaders privy to the negotiations said the expert panel will come up with possible solution in settling constituency allocation within three to four days, paving the way for the parties to field their candidates for provincial and parliamentary elections.
Currently, the local party organizations of both the UML and Maoist Center have recommended probable candidates for the upcoming elections to their respective party headquarters.
The alliance will field candidates once the expert panel finalizes constituencies, according to leaders involved in the negotiation.
