KATHMANDU, May 1: Development Committee(DC) under legislature parliament has directed the government not to prevent NCELL from offering 3G and 4G services citing that stopping them would be a blatant violation of the right of general consumers.
Arguing that it would be against the spirit of laissez faire economy to bar any company from providing certain services, the DC has directed the government to allow the NCELL, the telecommunications company, to expand its service.

The DC has drawn the attention of the government to the fact that capital gains tax (CGT) and service delivery are two separate things. The DC has said the government should not get involved in inhibiting technological development of the country.
At its meeting held on Thursday, the DC has directed the office of Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers, Finance Ministry, Ministry of Information and Communications, Inland Revenue Department and Nepal Telecom to give nod to NCELL for 3G and 4G service and take the capital gains tax row to a logical conclusion at the earliest.
“NCELL has more than around 10m customers. It is expanding its services across the country from city to village. If the NCELL is allowed to expand its current limited service, the general customers will benefit from latest information and communication technology and it will ultimately contribute to the overall development of the country”, reads the statement issued by the DC
