The loan sharking victims who were preparing to demonstrate outside Singha Durbar were stopped by the police at Shanti Batika on Monday. During that time, the police used batons and water cannons to stop the loan sharking victims from entering the restricted area.
Awadhesh Kushwaha, chairman of Farm Workers Struggle Committee against loan sharks and frauds, said that the government is more arrogant to suppress their problems than to solve them. He said that the protest will continue until their demands are met.
Earlier on April 1, the government signed a five-point agreement with a group of loan sharking victims. But another group has been protesting in Kathmandu since April 3 saying that the agreement will not solve the immediate problems of the loan sharking victims.
The government has already formed a commission to solve the problems of the loan shark victims and has asked the loan shark victims to withdraw their protest and return to their villages saying that the commission will solve all their problems.
