KATHMANDU, Oct 31: Langtang, a region located in the northern side of Nepal is not just a getaway destination for tourists who have come to escape the hustle and bustle of the city life and to embrace nature and the Himalayas, but is also a region rich in culture and traditions.

One can simply forget the pain from the long walk and indulge in the Himalayan lifestyle. Sitting by a window and enjoying the landscapes while drinking a hot butter tea will not only melt one’s insecurities but will also teach one to appreciate the simplest thing in life. The bleating of cattle, songs of the birds, and the magnificence and majesty of the mountains that surround the Langtang region will surely leave people embracing the mountains and the lifestyle beneath them.

Trekking in the Langtang Valley, one can visit several tourist hotspots such as Gosaikunda Lake, trek to Kyanjin Ri and Tserko Ri, as well as Yala peak. Langtang Lirung is the highest mountain in the region that stands at an altitude 7,234 meters. Although the long walk to the destination may sound daring to some, the views along the trails are sure to leave one breathless. Some usual stops for tourists along the Langtang trek include Sherpagaun, Lama Hotel, Ghodatabela (Horse stable), Langtang, and Kyangin, which is the last village with proper accommodation facilities for tourists who arrive there.

Langtang was devastated by the earthquake that struck Nepal in 2015. Many lives and properties were lost to the natural disaster. Five years after the incident, the Langtang village has been relocated and rebuilt. The survivors have built memorials along the trekking path in memory of their villagers who died in the earthquake of 2015.

Here are some pictures of Langtang and its surrounding mountains:
