Lumpy skin disease spreading rapidly in Bhaktapur

BHAKTAPUR, July 31: The rapid spread of lumpy skin disease has taken a heavy toll on livestock in Bhaktapur district. According to the officials at the Veterinary Hospital and Livestock Service Centre, the disease has escalated beyond control.

BHAKTAPUR, July 31: The rapid spread of lumpy skin disease has taken a heavy toll on livestock in Bhaktapur district. According to the officials at the Veterinary Hospital and Livestock Service Centre, the disease has escalated beyond control.


So far, 586 cattle have succumbed to the disease in the district. Changunarayan Municipality is the worst affected from the diseases with the death of 514 cattle, Chief of Livestock Service Section Khadak Kumar Mainali said.

Animal husbandry is a common occupation in Changunarayan Municipality compared to other local levels in the district.


According to Mainali, a total of 1,136 cattle are infected with the disease and around 5,600 others are affected. He further shared that the municipality purchased 1,500 doses of vaccines and vaccinated the cattle by visiting every farmers' cowshed.
