KATHMANDU, Oct 27: As per the Nepal Calendar Determination Committee, a khandagras (partial) lunar eclipse is scheduled for this Saturday, October 28.
Theologian Prof Dr Devmani Bhattarai has provided information that the Sutak phase of the lunar eclipse will commence at 1:19 PM and conclude at 4:19 PM. The calendar approved by the committee specifies that the eclipse's moksha phase will end at 2:38 AM.
Total lunar eclipse to take place today
Ancient scriptures mention that the Sutak for a solar eclipse starts four prahar (12 hours) prior, and for a lunar eclipse, it commences three prahar (nine hours) before the event.
This lunar eclipse, according to the committee, will be the sole eclipse of the year 2080 BS. Last year, there was a solar eclipse on October 25 and a lunar eclipse on November 8. In terms of the lunar month, the solar eclipse occurred on Kartik Krishna Aunsi, and the lunar eclipse occurred on Kartik Shukla Purnima. Notably, a solar eclipse happens during the new moon, and a lunar eclipse takes place during the full moon.
