Stating that his name is being publicized, Maha Prasad Adhikari has written a letter to the UML central office stating that he could not even think of being a member of any party. In response to the letter, UML has clarified that M Adhikari is not the governor.

The controversy escalated recently after the ruling Nepali Congress, CPN (Maoist Center) and others demanded the resignation of NRB Governor Adhikari saying that a party cadre cannot become the governor.
