JANAKPUR, June 28: Madhesh Province Chief Minister (CM) Satish Singh is scheduled to seek a vote of confidence on July 5. According to the Office of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers, CM Singh plans to seek a vote of confidence from the province assembly within the specified date.

Initially, CM Singh intended to seek the trust vote earlier, but the process was delayed due to the CPN (Unified Socialist) Party's general convention. He explained that lawmakers from the Unified Socialist Party requested him not to seek a trust vote before July 4, leading to the decision to seek the vote of confidence on July 5.

As per Article 168 (4) of the Constitution, a Chief Minister must seek a vote of confidence from the provincial assembly within 30 days of their appointment. Therefore, CM Singh must secure the vote by July 6.

Singh was appointed Chief Minister on June 7, supported by the majority of lawmakers after the previous Chief Minister, Janata Samajwadi Party leader Saroj Kumar Yadav, failed to prove his majority in the assembly. Province Chief Sumitra Bhandari appointed Satish Singh as the chief minister from the Janamat Party.

While submitting his nomination, CM Singh claimed the support of 55 lawmakers. His backing comes from the CPN-UML, CPN-Maoist Center, Janamat Party, Unified Socialist, Nagarik Unmukti Party, and Nepal Federal Socialist Party.
