MAHOTTARI, June 25: The District Hospital of Mahottari has launched a special program after more than 7,000 children were found to be malnourished.
Of the impoverished children, majority of whom fell between 59 months to six years, 2,200 were severely malnourished while another 5,002 were mildly malnourished, the District Hospital Mahottari said.

“Lack of sufficient food, including nutritious food and poor diet are major causes of malnutrition among children in rural Nepal,” Dr Girendra Jha said.
Following the findings, the District Hospital has initiated program against child malnutrition at around 10 district-based health facilities. There are 70,625 children from six to 59 months in the district
