Nepal started observing International Women’s Day 34 years ago, commemorating a significant occasion that underscores the united commitment to human rights and the ongoing pursuit of gender parity. The theme for Women's Day this year (March 8) is "Invest in women: Accelerate progress," complemented by the campaign theme, "Inspire Inclusion”. In celebration of the 34th International Women’s Day in Nepal, Republica has curated a collection of 34 inspiring stories showcasing unwavering courage, resilience, and empowerment of women below the age of 34. These stories are not merely personal; they wield a profound impact, shaping the lives of those who share them. They unfold as tales of courage, resilience, and empowerment.
At 26 years of age, Manisa Gole is making waves in the world of dance with her mastery of Kathak, a classical dance form known for its complexity and elegance. Born in Konjyosom Rural Municipality, Lalitpur, Gole's passion for dance blossomed at a young age.
Metal tradition is associated with sustainability
Despite the challenges associated with pursuing dance, especially as a woman in our society, Gole persevered. Initially uncertain about her ability to excel in Kathak, she refused to be deterred, pushing through the initial doubts and obstacles.
The turning point in Gole's journey came during the COVID-19 lockdown. While at home, she began creating and sharing short Kathak dance videos on social media. The response was overwhelming, with her videos garnering millions of views. Encouraged by this success, Gole ventured into teaching Kathak dance, earning over one lakh per month through her classes.
Currently pursuing her master's degree in dance at Padma Kanya Campus, Gole exemplifies the fusion of tradition and modernity. Through her dedication and innovative approach to promoting Kathak, she not only preserves this ancient art form but also introduces it to the new generation, bridging the gap between classicism and contemporary culture.
