Mankamana cable car being upgraded at a cost of Rs 450 million

KATHMANDU, Nov 24: Mankamana cable car is undergoing an upgrade at a cost of around Rs 450 million, as announced on the occasion of its 25th anniversary.


Managing Director of the company, Rajesh Babu Shrestha, stated that the analog technology of the cable car will be replaced with the latest digital system. The company has undertaken work to upgrade the digital system, known as D-Connect, from the Austrian Doppelmayr Company. The remaining upgrades are scheduled for completion in August/October of 2024.

Shrestha explained that the upcoming phase of the upgrade will include replacing the control system, communication cables, and the cable car itself. This ensures that the cable car operates with advanced technology, and there will also be changes to the cable car towers.


Nepal's first cable car service, Manakamana Cable Car, has reached its 25th anniversary. Initially serving 2,00,000 to 3,00,000 passengers annually, it has now increased to serving Rs 11,00,000 passengers each year. The target for the current year is set at serving 12,50,000 passengers.
