KATHMANDU, July 6: The CPN (Maoist Center) is ready to investigate the case of Finance Minister Janardan Sharma, who is accused of involving outsiders in the preparation of the budget.

It is said that the Maoists have become ready to form a parliamentary inquiry committee after Finance Minister Sharma refutes the questions and allegations leveled against him in the parliament meeting on Wednesday (today). Finance Minister Sharma will answer the questions raised against him in parliament today.

Meanwhile, the CPN-UML has adopted the strategy of not allowing Finance Minister Sharma to speak in parliament. The UML has decided not to allow Sharma to speak, stating that he has lost his moral ground to speak in parliament.

Apart from the UML, General Secretary of the Nepali Congress, Gagan Thapa, has also said that the incident should be investigated by the Prime Minister removing him if Finance Minister Sharma does not resign.

Finance Minister Sharma has been accused of instructing four senior finance ministry officials to follow the suggestions of two individuals — a retired senior non-gazetted officer and a chartered accountant — on the night of May 28 and making some last-moment changes in taxation with a view to benefiting certain business groups.

Sharma has also refused to provide the CCTV footage of the ministry’s activities in response to an application registered by the Consumer Welfare Protection Forum (CWPF), seeking to recover the CCTV footage.
