KATHMANDU, July 30: The CPN (Maoist Center) has also staked its claim to the chief ministership of Koshi Province.

The top leaders of the three ruling coalition parties, Nepali Congress, Maoist Center and Unified Socialist Party, had a discussion with the parliamentary party leaders of Koshi on Sunday morning. In the discussion held in Baluwatar, the leader of the Maoist party, Indra Angbo, said that he has his claim to the chief ministership.

Nepali Congress Parliamentary Party leader in the provincial assembly, Uddhav Thapa has also claimed chief ministership. But a leader who participated in the meeting said that if the other parties in the coalition can get a majority, he indicated that he may leave the leadership of the government.

In Koshi, earlier in June, there was almost an agreement to form a government under the leadership of Angbo. But after Nepali Congress agreed to take the Chief Minister at the top level, Thapa, the leader of the Nepali Congress Parliamentary Party, became the Chief Minister on July 6.

On July 27, the Supreme Court annulled Thapa's appointment. The Supreme Court annulled Thapa's appointment as it was unconstitutional for Speaker Baburam Gautam to sign the petition submitted by Thapa for government formation. In addition, according to Article 168(2) of the Constitution, a mandate was given to form the government by 2nd August.

Accordingly, the provincial chief has called on the parties to submit their claims by 5 pm on 1st of August.
