KATHMANDU, Jan 1: The closed-door session of the 8th national general convention of the CPN (Maoist Centre) has endorsed the party’s draft statute.

The draft was endorsed unanimously after standing committee member Dev Gurung, who presented the document at the closed session, responded to the queries raised on the document.

Gurung urged the general convention representatives to pass the draft statute so that the upcoming central committee would give it a final shape. A new 299-member central committee would be elected through the mixed election system — 50 percent through the direct election and 50 percent through the proportional system.

The elected central committee will nominate 15 percent members of the total members, replacing the earlier provision of 10 percent. The general convention will elect a central committee and the central committee will elect the politburo, standing committee, and office-bearers. The politburo, standing committee members, and office-bearers will be elected on the basis of the principle of inclusion.
