KATHMANDU, May 8: Chairman of the CPN (Maoist Center) has urged the members of the Constitutional Council (CC) to boycott the meeting of the council called for Sunday.

Issuing a statement on Saturday, Chairman Dahal asked the members of the six-member council not to join the meeting called by the chairman of CC and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. Dahal claimed that the meeting has been called with a malafide intent to drive the constitutional bodies against the letter and spirit of the constitution.

“As the Oli-led government has been constantly abusing the authority of endorsing ordinances, the meeting scheduled for tomorrow is also an attempt to avoid the democratic practices,” wrote Dahal, adding that the government is exhibiting its “arbitrary” character.

Dahal also asked the government to call off the meeting.

Meanwhile, a member of the council and the president of the main opposition Nepali Congress, Sher Bahadur Deuba also said that he would boycott the meeting and urged other members not to join either.

Similarly, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Agni Sapkota, too, has announced to boycott the meeting. Speaker Sapkota’s aides said there is no point in attending the meeting since Speaker Sapkota has filed a case against earlier appointments made by Prime Minister Oli through the CC meeting that was attended by only three of its members.
