KATHMANDU, Sep 1: A leader of the ruling CPN (Maoist Center) has criticized the government for failure to bust the syndicates in rural transport, the delay in earthquake grant distribution, and other issues.

CPN (Maoist Center) leader Agni Sapkota, speaking in Parliament on Thursday, also lambasted the government for failing to control the price of daily consumer goods and clamp down on the blackmarket.

“Transport operators have been openly challenging the government, which has turned into a mere spectator,” Sapkota said adding “Some earthquake victims still remain deprived of government relief and grants because they dosn't have access to complaint channels.”

He also drew the attention of the government to its failure to take any initiative for resuming traffic to and from China at the Tatopani border.

He said that even Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Krishna Bahadur Mahara failed to take any initiative in this regard.

Sapkota, himself a former goverment minister, also came down hard against Janardan Sharma, the Maoist minister for energy,  for disconnecting electricity supply at various places without first doing a proper study. “There was an agreement between the government and consumers in areas affected by the Maoist insurgency on not paying power tarrifs for that period, but the minister's move to disconnect the electricity has damaged the reputation of the Maoist-led government,” he said.
