Maoist leaders worry over power sharing post party unity

KATHMANDU, Jan 2: A secretariat meeting of the CPN (Maoist Center) has dwelled on the unification with the CPN-UML at the Khumaltar-based residence of Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal.


In the meeting, Maoist Center Chairman Dahal has briefed the secretariat members on the latest development of unification between the CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Center).


Speaking at the meeting, Dahal said, “CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has proposed to expedite the unification between the two parties saying that the government formation is getting delayed.”


Dahal informed that the meeting of the party unification coordination committee could not take place today due to the health condition of the UML Chairman Oli. “It will take place tomorrow,” said Dahal. Dahal further said that the negotiation on power sharing is yet to be finalized. Meanwhile, the most of the leaders expressed concerns about their position within the party once the unification concludes.


“A taskforce will be formed to sort out the issue of organizational structure of the new party and the positions of the leaders will also be finalized accordingly,” said Dahal.

Dahal went on to say that talks are underway to prepare a draft on the organizational structure from the center to the grassroots level in line with the six-point deal. Meanwhile, Dahal has urged the Maoist leaders to move ahead in accordance with the election manifesto and inform the party rank and file accordingly.


Maoist Center is of the view that the issue of provincial capital and provincial chief should be resolved in consultation with the political parties.


Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has called  a meeting to this end and Maoist Center is making preparations to submit a proposal in the meeting, according to Dina Nath Sharma.


Meanwhile, Maoist Center has formed a task-force to give a complete shape to the politburo and Secretariat of the party.


A taskforce led by leader Ram Bahadur Thapa has been formed in which Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, Matrika Yadav, Girirajmaji Pokharel, Shakti Basnet and Sabitri Kafle are members.


The taskforce will submit a report on the politburo and Secretariat, said Sharma.


According to Sharma, the taskforce will also determine the duties and responsibilities and their position of those who joined the party lately.


The Secretariat will take final decision on the report submitted by the taskforce.


Maoist Center has formed the taskforce in order to bring reforms in the organizational structure of the party.


The taskforce will also help manage the organizational structure of the to-be- formed party.


Similarly, Maoist Center has also formed a panel under the coordination of Amik Sherchan in which Lilamani Pokharel, Hitraj Pandey, Rekha Sharma, Ganesh Sah are members.


This committee will look into and prepare a report on the provincial and parliamentary elections results.
