KATHMANDU, August 31: The ruling CPN (Maoist Center) has revived it’s much-criticized youth wing - the Young Communist League (YCL) of Nepal - forming a 231-member central committee of the youth wing through a national gathering in the capital on Tuesday. The office-bearers of the YCL, however, could not be picked “due to disagreements”.

The meeting has decided to hand over the responsibility of selecting office-bearers to the central committee. According to Ram Prasad Sapkota, the national in-charge of the YCL, the selected members of the central committee will pick the office-bearers in the upcoming events.

“23 members will be nominated for the post of office-bearers from the central committee,” Sapkota informed Republica. “The central committee was formed to nominate 10 percent of the members to the post of office-bearers. With the formation of the committee, our national meeting has successfully concluded. Now the central committee members will hold a meeting to select the office-bearers,” he said.

The national meeting which started on Saturday saw Subodh Serpali, Suman Devkota and Yasoda Neupane place their names for the post of chief. However, the national gathering formed a central committee to select the office-bearers.

According to YCL, former prime minister and chairman of CPN (Maoist Center) Pushpa Kamal Dahal inaugurated the national gathering event and announced to mobilize the youth leaders in order to make the CPN (Maoist Center) the major political force after the upcoming election.

The decision comes in the wake of the CPN-UML reviving its militant youth wing, Youth Force and the newly-formed CPN (Unified Socialist) forming a similar youth wing called Akhil Force.
