Maternal betrayal: Son arrested for mother's murder

BHAKTAPUR, July 19:  Arjes Basnet, a 30-year-old man, has been arrested for killing his own mother in Bhaktapur.


Police said that he was arrested from Nawa Upakar Nepal Sudhar Kendra in Tokha, Kathmandu. A team including Sub-Inspector of Police Madhav Kumar Adhikari took him into custody. He is currently kept at Police Circle Thimi.

According to the police, Usha Thapa Basnet, 55, a permanent resident of Morang Urlabari Municipality-4, who was living at Rajendra Yadav's house in Anantalingeshwar, Suryabinayak Municipality-2, Bhaktapur, was found in an unconscious state on March 11, 2023. She was found unconscious by a neighbor.


After that, she was taken to Arogya Hospital Chardobato for immediate treatment. For further treatment, she was treated at Spinal Injury Hospital in Sanga, Kavre on March 14 of the same year and was referred to Scheer Memorial Adventist Hospital for further treatment on June 12, 2023.


During the treatment, she died on the 12th of June at approximately 9:48 AM. In relation to the incident, the deceased's son, Prabesh Basnet, 28, filed a complaint against his brother Arjes Basnet, 30, for murder on July 2.


SP Prajit KC of Bhaktapur Police Range said that the defendant Arjes Basnet was arrested on the same basis. It is said that further investigation into the incident is underway.
