KATHMANDU, Sept 10: The ruling coalition is in a meeting to discuss further the expansion of the cabinet and the US government's Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) agreement.

A meeting of the top leaders of the five parties of the alliance-- Nepali Congress (NC), CPN (Maoist Center), CPN (Unified Socialist), Janata Samajbadi Party and Rastriya Janamorcha -- is being held at the Prime Minister's official residence in Baluwatar. The meeting began at 9 AM.

The coalition, which has not been able to give complete shape to the cabinet even two months after the formation of the government, is likely to expand the cabinet today.

Although the leaders of the coalition have repeatedly discussed giving complete shape to the government, they have not been able to do so yet. Sources close to Prime Minister Deuba said the top leaders of the ruling coalition will also try to forge consensus on whether to endorse the MCC agreement through the parliament. A delegation led by MCC Vice President Fatima Sumar is currently in Kathmandu to hold discussions about the MCC agreement with top leaders of all political parties in the country.

While the NC and the JSP are in favor of passing the MCC agreement, some leaders of the Maoist Center and the CPN (Unified Socialists) are in favor of the amendment before passing it through the parliament.
