KATHMANDU, March 5: Defense Minister Ishwar Pokharel and Chief of the Army Staff Purna Chandra Thapa skipped a meeting of State Affairs and Good Governance Committee under the House of Representatives on Thursday which was supposed to witness a deliberation on the alleged corruption in the Nepal Army.
Chairperson of the committee Sashi Shrestha said that the meeting was postponed until further notice owing to the absence of Defense Minister Pokharel and CoAS Thapa. During the meeting, the parliamentarians expressed serious objection to the deliberate absence of the minister and army chief.
Defense minister, army chief skip House inquiry meeting
The committee had summoned the minister and army chief to enquire about the alleged corruption in the Nepal Army. The committee had formed a sub-committee to probe into the alleged irregularities in the NA. The sub-committee was supposed to present its report before the defense minister and army chief. The report has incorporated alleged policy corruption and anomalies in the NA.
