Meeting of the ruling coalition begins

KATHMANDU, Dec 5: Top leaders of the ruling coalition are attending a meeting which started at the prime minister's official residence in Baluwatar on Monday evening. One of the participating leaders informed Republica that they will review the general elections and discuss the formation of a new government.

KATHMANDU, Dec 5: Top leaders of the ruling coalition are attending a meeting which started at the prime minister's official residence in Baluwatar on Monday evening. One of the participating leaders informed Republica that they will review the general elections and discuss the formation of a new government.


The five-party coalition currently consists of the Nepali Congress, CPN (Maoist Centre), CPN (Unified Socialist), Loktantrik Samajwadi Party (LSP) and Rastriya Janamorcha.

The meeting is being attended by Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, NC senior leader Ramchandra Paudel, Vice President Purna Bahadur Khadka, NC leader Krishna Sitaula, Chairman of CPN Maoist Centre Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Senior Vice Chairman of the party Narayan Kaji Shrestha, General Secretary Dev Prasad Gurung, Chairman of CPN Unified Socialist Madhav Kumar Nepal, General Secretary Beduram Bhusal, Durga Paudel and other leaders of Jana Morcha.


The Nepali Congress won 57 seats in the House of Representatives during the election held on November 20. Similarly, the Maoist Center secured 18 seats, the CPN Unified socialist won 10 seats, the LSP won four seats and the Rastriya Janamorcha won one seat. Looking at the number of seats in the state assembly, it seems likely that the ruling coalition will form the government
