DADELDHURA, Oct 19: Milk farmers in the district have better income these days following an improvement in the management of milk production and supply to Kailali.
The improved marketing of the milk produced by different communities of Parshuram Municipality and Alital Rural Municipality has contributed to the increased income of farmers and milk collectors. A farmer sells 15 liters of milk daily on average.
There were four milk collection centers in Parshuram Municipality and Alital Rural Municipality that were established three years ago in order to collect milk produced by farmers individually or in group. It has become easier for farmers to sell the milk after two additional milk collection centers have been established in the district. Six milk collection centers are in operation in the inner tarai area.
About 250 households here have started cattle farming and the production of milk. Currently, an average of 2,500 to 3,000 liters of milk is collected on daily basis.

Started seven years ago with six local communities, 25 communities are now engaged in cattle farming.
According to Jaya Bahadur Bohara, operator of Alital Cow and Buffalo Milk Collection Center, the milk produced in the area reaches consumers through different dairies of the neighboring district, Kailali.
Bohara collects 250 liters of milk every day and sends 150 liters of dairy products to Kailali. “We buy milk for Rs 40-50 from the farmers,” he added, “Farmers engaged in cattle farming are earning good amounts from the profession, and I also got the opportunity to earn working from the village.”
Farmers are enthused after the milk they have produced has made its way to Dhangadhi, Kailali following the operation of milk collection centers. Their earning has increased.
Jagan Singh Madai, a local, said that locals are making enough money to run their families by selling milk.
He said that the cost of bringing up of the children and other household expenses are covered by selling milk.
Currently, Milk collection centers at Dhimada of Alital Rural Municipality-6, Gharelu Bazaar-4, Godam Bazar-8, Mauri Bazaar, Gaibadhe-10 of Parshuram Municipality and Tulabhadi-12 are collecting milk from farmers.
Alital Rural Municipality is about to purchase a tanker with the capacity of carrying 6,500 liters of milk to ease the supply. According to Bal Bahadur Gurung, chairman of the rural municipality, it is the first time that the purchase of tanker has been processed in coordination with different bodies in Sudurpashchim Province for the benefit of farmers.
