SANDHIKHARKA, March 27: A 132 Kilovolt (KV) double circuit transmission line has been brought into operation from Motipur of Kapilvastu to Sandhikharka of Agra Kochi.

Similarly, the 132 KV substation under the transmission line project in Fudwang of Sandhikharka Municipality-6 has been put into operation as well. Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Pampha Bhusal inaugurated the transmission line and the substation amid a program held on Saturday.

With the start of the operation, power supply to Kapilvastu, Argharkhachi, Palpa, Gulmi, and Pyuthan districts is expected to  be reliable along with the reduction of technical leakage of electricity. Until now, electricity was supplied to Arghakhanchi, Palpa, and Gulmi from a 33KV transmission in Butwal.

However, frequent problems disrupting power supply used to occur in the past as the 33KV transmission line was very long. Technical leaks were also a major problem.

Speaking at the inauguration function, Minister Bhusal said that the first 132 KV transmission line and substation constructed at Arghakhanchi would be of high quality and reliable.

Stating that consumers in the region have been complaining against frequent load shedding, Bhusal urged them to use electricity not only for lighting but also for cooking as the problem has been solved now. "Let us produce electricity by converting a sufficient amount of water into electricity and irrigation. Let's move towards agriculture to build a self-reliant economy,” Bhusal said.

Similarly, Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) Managing Director Kulman Ghising said that there is no lack of budget and that electricity will be supplied to every household within two years.

The 38 km 132 KV double circuit transmission line has been brought to Sandhikharka substation starting from 132 KV Motipur substation of Banganga Municipality-7 of Kapilvastu and passing through Sitganga Municipality of Arghakhanchi. A total of 106 towers have been constructed for the transmission line.

A contract agreement was signed with Sigma Cone JV in April 2018 for the construction of the Motipur-Sandhikharka transmission line. The estimated cost of the transmission line is around Rs. 700 million.
