Ministry of Finance spends only 10 percent of its budget in six months of FY 2023/24

KATHMANDU, Jan 30: The Ministry of Finance, which has been pointing fingers at the development ministries for poor budget expenditure, is in a miserable position with its own budget spending. The ministry has spent only 10.05 percent of the allocated budget in the first six months of the current fiscal year (FY) 2023/24.

KATHMANDU, Jan 29: The Ministry of Finance, which has been pointing fingers at the development ministries for poor budget expenditure, is in a miserable position with its own budget spending. The ministry has spent only 10.05 percent of the allocated budget in the first six months of the current fiscal year (FY) 2023/24.


For the current FY, the government had allocated Rs 40.45 billion for the Ministry of Finance and its subordinate agencies. Out of that, only Rs 4.64 billion has been spent till mid-January.

A total budget of Rs 21.14 billion has been allocated for economic revival, relief and concession programs this year. However, not a single penny has been spent on this title in six months.


MCA Nepal has been allocated Rs 10.84 billion this year. However, only Rs 50 million have been spent in six months. Due to the meager spending on these programs/projects, the expenditure percentage of the Ministry is low.


The overall budget expenditure of the government has reached 32.75 percent in six months, which is only 0.62 percent more than last FY.


This year, the government is implementing a budget equal to Rs 1751 billion. The expenditure has been only Rs 573.63 billion as of mid-January.
