The 19-year- old Korean, who was loose as a goose and not easy to hit, deservedly took round one 4-1.
Gurung struggled to close the distance and get her shots off as Im swept round two, leaving the 13th SAG gold medalist needing a knockout in round three.
But Im went through by a unanimous decision to advance to the quarterfinals, where she will face Sakshi Chaudhary of India, who beat Nilawan Techasuep of Thailand 4-1.
SAG men’s champion Sanil Shahi, who defeated Kyrgyzstan’s Kadyrbek Ullu Argen in men’s lightweight (63kg) bout on Tuesday, is scheduled to face the top seed Bakhodur Usmanov of Tajikistan in the round of 16 bout on Wednesday.
