KATHMANDU, March 31: Independent lawmaker Dr Amresh Kumar Singh has demanded that a parliamentary committee be formed to investigate the conduct of judges.
He made such a demand while speaking at the meeting of the House of Representatives on Sunday. MP Singh expressed concerns about the integrity of the justice system and demanded the formation of a committee to examine its processes and underlying principles.
He urged the Law Minister to oversee the scrutiny of mobile phone records belonging to Supreme Court Justices. “The monitoring of mobile phone records of Supreme Court Justices is imperative. Decisions may be influenced by the accessibility of certain leaders,” he said.

MP Singh mentioned that decisions are being made on the basis of access and influence of individuals. “The justice system is also different according to access. Where will this lead the country to?” he asked, adding, “The decision-making process should be in accordance with the law and the constitution.”
MP Singh remarked that appointments in the judiciary are now based on quotas, damaging the integrity of the justice system. “This does not strengthen the trust in the judiciary,” he said.
Lawmaker Singh also criticized how decisions on critical issues like the country's finances are being influenced, with cases dragged out and manipulated due to individuals' connections and influence.
“We must question the basis upon which decisions are being made in the judiciary." MP Singh said that if justice becomes tainted and fragmented, it would lead to an increase in corruption in the country.
He said that the issues raised in the complaints submitted to the Judicial Council are not thoroughly investigated. “There should be an inquiry into the administration of justice and the conduct of judges," MP Singh said.
