KATHMANDU, Jan 26: Following warning from Nepal Resident Doctors Association (NRDA) to halt services except emergency in teaching hospitals, the Ministry of Health (MoH) has forwarded documents to the concerned authorities to pay the resident doctors at teaching hospitals across the country.
Resident doctors are the MD students, who study Masters' Degree in Medicine and work at the teaching hospitals all over the country. The MoH provides Rs 2.8 million to each of the resident doctors for their study period of three years.

According to the NRDA, the government has not paid them for the last eight months. The resident doctors issued a 24-hour ultimatum on Thursday to the government to release the due amount. They warned the government that they will halt all services including teaching-learning unless they were paid within 24 hours.
Shree Krishna Giri, spokesperson for the MoH, said that they forwarded the documents on Thursday to release the funds for their payment. "They will receive the amount soon," he added.
Dr Giri, however, could not provide the exact number of students working as resident doctors across the country.
