KATHMANDU, Dec 23: Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) has initiated a process to appoint a new Executive Director at Shahid Gangalal National Heart Center, as the tenure of the incumbent Executive Director Dr Chandramani Adhikari is ending soon.
According to the MoHP sources, Health Minister Mohan Bahadur Basnet initiated the preparation to pick a new Executive Director on Friday. However, the proposal does not specify the name of the Executive Director.
Dr Malla appointed executive director of Gangalal Hospital
The names of Dr Rabi Malla and Dr Arun Maskey are being discussed for the position of the new Executive Director. MoHP sources indicate that Minister Basnet is inclined to assign the role to Dr. Malla. "The name of the new director has not been finalized. Currently, Dr. Mall and Dr. Maskey are under consideration," stated the source.
Gangalal National Cardiovascular Center surgeon Dr Ramesh Koirala is also aspiring for the post of Executive Director. But he has indicated that he will resign if he is not given the opportunity. At around 9:30 PM on Friday night, he expressed his dissatisfaction with the political interference in the hospital through social media and announced that he was going to resign.
Dr Koirala has indicated his willingness to resign as discussions about other doctors' names for the position have emerged within MoHP.
Dr Koirala also expressed displeasure that Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Thapa and Bishwa Prakash Sharma are silent about the political interference in the selection of the Executive Director of Gangalal National Heart Center.
