KATHMANDU, July 31: World Alliances for Mercury-Free Dentistry (WAMFD), USA, has felicitated Government of Nepal, Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) and Ram Charitra Sah, Executive Director and Environment Scientist of Center for Public Health and Environmental Development (CEPHED) for taking and implementing progressive decisions about Mercury Free Health Care Service and Dentistry in Nepal.
Siddika Sultana, Vice-President of WAMFD and Executive Director ESDO Bangladesh handed over a letter of appreciation to MoHP and First in Asia Award’s plaque 2022 to Ram Charitra Sah.

The government of Nepal has taken very progressive, public health, and environment-friendly decisions and implemented them to address the issues of high mercury exposure and environmental pollution. There is provision of Mercury Free Health Care Service, the banning of the import, purchase, and use of all mercury-based equipment in public as well as private sectors effective from 17th July 2013.
Similarly, a coordination meeting organized on Saturday aims to solicit coordination and collaboration of all concerned public and private stakeholders toward the successful completion of these compliance monitoring initiatives, actively participated by over 35 representatives from MoHP, Ministry of Forest and Environment (MoFE), World Health Organizations (WHO), Neal Dental Association (NDA), different other public and private health care services and medical education providing institutions and media personnel.
