KATHMANDU, June 20: The monsoon system has spread to the central parts of Nepal.
According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM), the monsoon was active in most parts of Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati and Gandaki Provinces as well as eastern parts of Lumbini Province on June 20.
However, the monsoon wind has not yet reached Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces and western parts of Lumbini Province. Therefore, Lumbini and the southern parts of Sudurpaschim are extremely hot at present. The DHM said that it will take several more days for the monsoon to spread throughout Nepal.

Although it has been 10 days since the monsoon arrived, there has not been significant rain except in the eastern region of the country and other few places. The DHM said that it has not rained because the monsoon wind is stuck in one place for a long time.
The monsoon entered Nepal via eastern parts of the country and spread towards western parts. When the monsoon wind pushes the westerly winds, it becomes effective and rainfall occurs. However this year, the monsoon wind has been stuck in the eastern parts for a long time.
The DHM said that during this year’s monsoon, there is possibility of incessant rainfall compared to previous year. There is a higher possibility of incessant rainfall, especially in July and August.
This year, monsoon wind entered Nepal on June 10, three days earlier than its usual arrival compared to previous years
